Mr. Brooks is an undergraduate and a 1982 law school graduate of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He is Board Certified as a Civil Trial Specialist by the National Board of Trial Advocacy. He is a member of the Savannah Trial Lawyers Association (Past President -1989-90), Georgia Trial Lawyers Association (President -2001-2002 and past editor of The Verdict), a member of the State Bar of Georgia (past member, Uniform Rules Committee, 1997-98; past member of the Judicial and Administrative Procedure Committee, 1990-1993; past District 1 Representative to General Practice and Trial Section, 1993-1995); American Association for Justice (former co-chairman of Formaldehyde Litigation Group); Savannah Bar Association; North Carolina State Bar and he is authorized to practice in all state and federal courts in Georgia and has appeared numerous times in Georgia and Federal appellate courts. He published "Neurotoxicity and Formaldehyde," American Association for Justice, 1986. He is the author of "How to Handle a Formaldehyde Case," published as a chapter in Plaintiff's Guide to Toxic Torts, Matthew Bender, 1987; "Use of Learned Treatises at Trial", The Verdict, August 1988; "Multiple Chemical Sensitivity Syndrome Claims", American Association for Justice Seminar 1990; "Direct Examination of a Treating Doctor", Calendar Call, December 1992; "Screening the Toxic Tort Case", The Verdict, April, 1993; "Epidemiology for the Trial Lawyer", The Verdict, December 1998.
Mr. Brooks' focus is in the areas of negligence, product liability, personal injury, wrongful death, workers' compensation, construction litigation, property damage, toxic torts, and maritime torts. He has developed an expertise in the field of toxic torts, and has handled actions including exposure to asbestos, lead, pesticides, solvents, breast implantsm and Fen-Phen. He has also represented homeowners in construction litigation for defective building materials including exterior insulation and finishing systems (EIFS).
Recently, he has begun representing breast cancer victims who have taken Prempro and other hormone-containing drugs
